I thought it was poorly done....way over the top melodrama. I'm sure there was all kinds of horrendous violence toward slaves at the time, but shooting a slave in the field in front of other slaves was just not realistic. The personal storyline was too much soap opera. I'd much prefer a Ken Burns documentary on the subject.

tuned out to be a pretty good movie but I had rather it forced more on the father (title character) and son relationship than goings on at the whitehouse, just my take
