please somebody explain to me what happened, what did I miss. I thought Rick killed Shane and then he was walking toward them like he was a walker. When did that happen?

Have any of you read the novel Walking Dead: The Rise of the Governor? It is so good.
I was really upset about Dale's death. I think he was totally right about killing Randall. It may bite them in the *** later but if they start killing human's without a care they are stooping to the level of the ones they are trying to defend themselves from. Carl is getting on my nerves though. He is a brat and needs to be watched better. I would not let my family out of my sight if I were living in those conditions.
