I've had good luck with the traps. Keep in mind the regular insect spray doesn't kill them. If the label doesn't say it kills carpenter bees, it won't.

Best thing to keep bore bees away is human urine. Save your urine then use it to spray down the sections of your house that they attack.

Boring by carpenter bees usually occurs in late spring. They do not bore later in the season but are often seen in flowers gathering nectar. For more information you can try out this link: http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/dep...erbees.htm

They are not in heat now. Only bore to lay the eggs for next years terror.
As for prevention, there is NONE!
So keep the tennis racket handy for next year.

I haven't seen very many, either. But I have a ton of little millipedes, all over my house, inside and out! I swear, I vacuum, and 2 minutes later there will be 10 worms right where I just vacuumed.

The wasps are around the holes now looking for the larvae. Once the larvae hatch, you will have a new round of boring starting. If you have a problem with them, I make and sell the traps. PM me for info.

For the most part they have quieted down here. I've been spraying our cabin with Cyzmic CS every few weeks which seems to help keep them away from the house, as well as kill everything else around the house (spiders, roaches, ants, wasps, etc ).
That said, I have tons of holes around the house :( I've been putting Delta Dust in the holes I can reach, and will have the rest dusted and plugged in the early fall when we have our cabin stained again.

I've been hitting them with a tennis racket.

We have not had the usual problem with carpenter bees this year. I have been curious about that as well.

Hitting bees with a tennis racket sounds far from boring to me!

Anyone else noticed the past few weeks that the boring bees haven't been around? Just curious if they are done with their destruction and moved on- or if my pesticide spraying has been successful!!! Or both!!
