I have used it. I did two in diffrent ways. One was high gloss and the other was a satin finish. Both looked good and wear well.

I've seen it done on tv, but it was covered with an epoxy coating to protect it. They also pointed out that polyurethane would not hold up on countertops. Painted countertops just sounds like a bad idea.

I would just put a new top on if I were you,,I have installed a bunch of them or just recovered the old ones

Paint can't be safe to use around food. I wouldn't do it.

I saw a counter it was used on. It had been on about a year. It looked like the hood of a car would look if you used it as a countertop. It was scratched, scared and scrapped. It was professionally applied so I would assume (for what that's worth) it was done properly and this was the regular expectation.

I would advise against it....the fumes alone are enough to choke a horse.
