for the past 2-3 years, i have had good success with the" german stripy"-it depends on what kind of tomatoes tthat you like best with regard to acid and seeds-the stripy is less acid like most of the "german" tomatoes and is more meaty like the beefsteak-also has a good flavor--I've given some to my sisters and now they swear by them.

Glitter, the ones I bought are Better Boys. I'm sure any variety would make it.

I would like to set out some more plants now. Mine are coming in and are beautiful! What would be the best to set out now? And, when would they come in?

Just buy a more mature tomato plant, I've got 3 on the deck and they're just now starting to ripen

Not too late yet, chendo. I picked up some tomato plants at the Feed & Seed in Kernersville this afternoon.

i live in winston..i have a deck that is full sun most of the day. i grew tomatoes last year...is it too late to grow some now?

Early Girl tomatoes grow really good in this area. They produce tomatoes in just 60 days. they taste good too.

Try a variety called "Big Daddy". When properly taken care of, these plants can reach a height of 7+ feet. I usually put a shovel scoop of well composted chicken manure along with a touch of epsom salt in the hole before setting the plant. Then I put 10-20-20 fertilizer anound the plant after it is set in the ground but I do not use much due to the fact that too much will burn up the plant. Then I water the plant well on a regular basis. You will want to add limestone to the soil in which the plants will be set out. When the plant is well esablished and blossoms form, be sure to pinch off any "suckers" from the plant. This will ensure that the plant uses the nutrients to make bigger,better tomatoes.

What kind grows best and tastes best around here and what is the easiest way to grow the good ones? My luck has not been the best with the maters lately.
